Poetry: Galaxy by Michaela Carmitan

GALAXY
by Michaela Carmitan

You’re probably thinking in French
Practicing for conversations with foreign tongues

Learning the difference between I miss you
And You’re missing from me

Or maybe you’re stretched out in bed
Breathing in other people’s words and worlds
Creating your own big, big questions
And alternate realities
In your ineffable mind

Or perhaps you’re sitting, back straight,
Fingers dancing in keys
Your eyes shut, not for practice,
But because you can’t help it, can’t bear it
The music so beautiful, you must see with your eyes closed

I paint pictures of you in my head
And I smile

Yes, you’re not by my side
But you’re with me
