Poetry: Burn by Michaela Carmitan

BURN
by Michaela Carmitan

The first was a hesitant taste
Of danger, darkness, sin –

I saw your eyes light up the room
Your smile a mix of sugar and blades

The second, the third, the fourth
Were sweet surrenders
Just to keep you company
When you felt the need for a rush
When you felt the need for a touch

But the next infinities were hurricanes
A heady blur of I miss you and I wish you were here
Despite my constant reminder
That I’m not for you
Despite your constant assurance
That you know

Galaxies stood between us
And you tried to stop spinning
But here we are

You can’t stop wanting me
And I can’t stop killing you
